About the course

Strathbogie Golf Club sits in the Strathbogie Ranges, about two hours' drive north-east of Melbourne. Golf has been played in the village since 1920, when five holes were laid out, and the club was formed on 17 April 1924. For about sixty years it played on paddocks near the town centre, growing from six holes to eighteen.

In 1984 Wangaratta designer Dick Pendlebury recommended a new 18-hole course on the present site. Bill Edger of Commonwealth Golf Club later moved several greens and tees and redesigned the 15th, 16th and 17th holes. The full eighteen was first played in 1987 on sand greens, the clubhouse was moved across and enlarged in 1991, and the course was officially opened in 1992. In 2004 the club bought the course land for $300,000 with loans and donations from members and locals, and grass greens on all eighteen holes were completed in 2006. In 2024, the club's centenary year, architect Mike Clayton advised on tree reduction, green enlargement and tee changes.

The course is a par 72, 36 on each nine, with four par 5s. A twilight nine holes is rated for handicap purposes.

The course is open all year to members and the public. Green fees for non-members are $25 for all-day golf. Competitions are played on Saturdays from midday and on Tuesdays from 3pm in summer and 2pm in winter, and new members are welcome.

The clubhouse has a kitchen and bar, and the club hosts events on the Dalhousie District Golf Association calendar, including the Strathbogie Open in October.
