About the course
Strathallan Golf Club is a member-run, not-for-profit club in Bundoora, less than 16 km from central Melbourne and close to La Trobe University. It was formed as a private club in 1957 by staff and patients of the Mont Park, Larundel and Gresswell hospitals, on land that had been grazing and farm country for those hospitals. The course is flanked on two sides by the Gresswell Habitat Link, and kangaroos, echidnas and many birds live among its River Red Gums, some thought to be more than a century old.
There are nine greens, each with two teeing grounds, giving 18 different holes. The course is shorter than average but has narrow fairways, small greens, bunkers, Irish mounding and out of bounds on many holes, and westerly winds can add two or three clubs.
- 1st: a 318-metre par 4 with wetlands down the left and a green sloping back to front.
- 4th: the signature hole and longest par 4 at 422 metres, with a River Red Gum blocking much of the fairway and a green hidden until about 75 metres out.
- 12th: at 261 metres, a short par 4 that long hitters can reach.
Visitors book online. From 24 October 2026 weekday adult fees are $39 for 18 holes and $31 for nine, and $42 and $36 at weekends and on public holidays. Visitors can play all day on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, after 2pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday because of member competitions, and on Sunday after the early competitions. Payment is contactless only. Carts cost non-members $45 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, and collared shirts are preferred, with no denim, beachwear or athletic shorts.
Practice nets and a putting green sit near the licensed clubhouse, which has a bar and light refreshments. Resident PGA professional Kevin Quigley runs the pro shop next door and gives lessons and junior and adult clinics.
