About the course
Heyfield Golf Club is on Golflinks Road at Seaton, about ten minutes from Heyfield, half an hour from Sale or Maffra and roughly forty minutes from Traralgon. The course runs through Gippsland bushland, with stands of original pines from the club's early days.
The 18 holes play to par 72 over 5,718 metres from the men's tees. Fairways are tree-lined, greens often have run-off areas, and recent work has cleared stumps and trees on several holes.
- 2nd: a 389-metre par 4, stroke index 1 for men, usually into the prevailing wind, with out of bounds down the left and a small green.
- 8th: a 312-metre par 4 where men drive over the edge of a large dam.
- 9th: a 199-metre uphill par 3 over a deep gully; the club says no one had yet made a hole-in-one there.
- 14th: the longest hole, a 489-metre par 5 with an original pine still in play.
- 18th: a 136-metre par 3 to an elevated green, with water along about a third of its length.
Visitors can simply turn up: no membership, booking or phone call is needed. The green fee is $25 any day for any number of holes, paid by envelope at the clubhouse window, bank deposit or tap-and-go on the Vendi terminal. Competitions are open to visitors: a 12-hole chicken run on Tuesday and Thursday (11am tee-off), an open medley on Wednesday (9.30am), an open stableford on Friday (8am to 9am) and the main competition on Saturday (10am to 11am). Social golf runs seven days a week, and groups and charity days can be arranged with the club.
A putting green and practice net beside the clubhouse are free to use whenever the course is open. The clubhouse itself opens around competition days for a drink after the round.
