About the course

Inverleigh Golf & Disc Golf Club is a volunteer-run community club on Common Road, Inverleigh, with an 18-hole sand-green golf course and two 18-hole disc golf courses cut through natural bushland where kangaroos, echidnas and native birds are common.

Golf began here in July 1937 on a nine-hole sand-scrape course built by volunteers on the McCallum brothers' Argyle Park property, with players meeting under a gum tree before a tent and shed were put up. After a spell on leased land on Shelford Road from 1972, the club took a 21-year Crown land lease at the present site in 1977. Local district champion Joe Briody designed the course, which was cleared from dense bush by bulldozer: nine holes were first played in 1979 and the second nine added in 1981 and 1982. The club has hosted the Victorian women's sand-green championship in 1989 and 2014 and the men's in 1994, and has run an annual Open since 1949. Irrigation was added to the front nine tees and fairways in 2020, and acacia clearing from 2022 has opened up much of the course.

Visitors pay $15 for the day by phone or card at the Vendi machine on the clubroom wall; no booking is needed. Members have right of way during competitions on Wednesdays (women, 9:30am) and Saturdays (mixed, 11:30am), and the course is closed to green fee players on tournament days. Golfers share the fairways with disc golfers and should give way to anyone already playing a hole. Two carts can be hired through the Vendi app.

The course is open from 8am to 6pm every day except during events. Clubrooms are available for hire.
