About the course
Lang Lang Golf Club is in South Gippsland, about 90 minutes' drive from Melbourne. The club was formed in 1925 by local golfers playing nine-hole sand scrape courses on private land, and moved through six sites in its early decades. It merged with Koo Wee Rup Golf Club from 1932 to 1935, closed during the Second World War and re-formed in 1949. In 1960 the shire granted it about 100 acres of Crown gravel reserve beside what is now the South Gippsland Highway, and former Australian Open champion George Naismith and professional Bill Walker designed the course free of charge. It opened on 25 May 1963, with Naismith hitting the first ball.
The 18-hole, par 70 course is built on sand, so it drains naturally and plays all year. It runs through forest with plenty of native wildlife, and its narrow couch fairways and fast greens reward accurate play.
Lang Lang is a semi-private club where guests and visitors are welcome, with some restrictions on competition days. Open mixed competitions are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and Saturday competitions are for members only. Weekday green fees are $50 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, rising to $65 and $50 on weekends and public holidays; prices can change seasonally and over holidays. Book and pay online. The club has 23 motorised carts at $50 for 18 holes and $30 for nine: they must be booked, drivers must be over 18, and carts are due back by 5pm in winter and 6pm in summer. Clubs hire for $20. Collared shirts and soft spikes are required on course, and denim, cargo shorts and singlets are not allowed.
A driving range, practice nets and a short game area with bunkers and a putting green are being built, scheduled for summer 2026, with coaching to follow. The licensed bar and catering serve social groups, including a green fee and lunch package; BYO alcohol is not permitted.
