About the course

Marong Golf Club is in Marong, west of Bendigo, on both sides of the Calder Alternate Highway. The club was established in 1920 and marked its centenary with a member day on 31 October 2020. It has had its setbacks, including a fire that destroyed the earlier clubhouse along with many of its honour boards, but it rebuilt and carried on.

The 18-hole course is on mostly flat, easy walking ground in natural bushland, with a large dam and Bullock Creek running through it. From the white markers it plays to par 69 (34 out, 35 home) and from the red markers to par 71. Holes 1 to 6 are across the road from the clubhouse; holes 7 to 18 begin beside the highway and finish back at the clubhouse. The greens are sand scrapes, and there is a practice scrape near the Vendi shed.

The course is open to the public during daylight hours outside competition times, and no booking is needed. The green fee is $20 for either 9 or 18 holes, paid at the cash box behind the 7th tee or by card in the Vendi shed. Three carts can be hired for $30 each through the Vendi Cart site, which issues a code for a lockbox holding the key. A vending machine in the shed sells drinks, snacks and some golf accessories.

Competitions to plan around:

  • Tuesday: 9am start in summer, 10am in winter.
  • Thursday: 5pm start in summer, 2pm in winter.
  • Saturday: 12pm start, with an 8am start possible for groups who arrange it.
