About the course
Red Cliffs Golf Club was founded in 1925 by the First World War soldier settlers who cleared the Mallee scrub and planted the vineyards of the Red Cliffs district, which the club's history describes as the largest soldier settlement developed in Australia. Red Cliffs sits on the Calder Highway in Sunraysia, 16 km south of Mildura. The club's own history site records the early amalgamation of the Red Cliffs and Westcliffs clubs, the eventual purchase of the course land, and the 1956 flood, when Red Cliffs opened its doors to members of the flooded Riverside club.
The course began as a sand scrape layout. The first moves to grass the fairways came in the 1960s, and from the 1970s volunteer working bees converted the course to grass greens and fully irrigated fairways; the 4th green, for example, was seeded in 1976. In 2004 the club started a lawn turf farm alongside the course to put its finances on a firmer footing.
Visitors pay green fees at the club, and non-members with a Golf Australia handicap can play in the competitions on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday for half the green fee plus the competition fee. Hand carts are free. Motorised carts are hired by filling in the sheet at the bar, with two people per cart and no drivers under 18, and club hire is available. The club also offers footgolf, with soccer balls for hire.
The clubhouse holds a full club licence, and a covered barbecue area beside it overlooks the 18th green. The club is open every day, from 8am or 9am, closing between 4pm and 6pm depending on the day.
