About the course
Patterson River Golf Club is at Bonbeach, about 30 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, next to the Melbourne Sandbelt. Golf began on the site in 1925 on farmland owned by the Priestly family. In 1948 the property was bought by the Country Club and run as a members' club, then known as Patterson River Country Club, with golfers from around the state staying as guests in the large clubhouse. In the early days visitors made the trip from Carrum railway station by horse and jinker. The course was later rebuilt as an all-weather sandbelt-style layout.
The 18 holes are laid out around a 15-hectare lake system, and water is in play on many holes. From the blue tees the course is a par 72 of 6,197 metres, with white and red tees also available.
- 2nd: the signature hole, a 166-metre par 3 where club selection is the key.
- 4th: a 516-metre par 5 to a two-tiered green, with second shots on the left feeding into water.
- 15th: a 423-metre par 4, rated the hardest hole on the course.
- 18th: a 507-metre par 5 with water behind the left fairway bunker.
Non-members register online for free and can then book tee times. In late October 2026 the booking sheet showed $110 for 18 holes and $70 for nine on weekdays, and $120 for 18 holes on weekends. Every player needs their own clubs; sets can be arranged through the pro shop beforehand. Dress regulations apply.
The pro shop is open from daylight to 6pm and offers coaching and club fitting, with a practice range and chipping and putting greens. The bar and bistro is open to the public daily, serving lunch from 11am to 2pm and dinner on Fridays, and the function room holds up to 400.
