About the course
Long Island is one of the four courses of The National Golf Club, at 163-235 Frankston-Dandenong Road, Frankston. It was the home of the Long Island Country Club until November 2014, when members of both clubs voted to merge into The National. The original course was laid out by British architect Gordon Oliver.
In July 2022 members backed a redesign by Ogilvy Cocking Mead (OCM Golf), led by Ashley Mead. Work started in February 2024 and the course reopened on 21 March 2026 as three 18-hole routings over shared fairways and double greens. Fairway area grew from 12 to 20 hectares, vegetation was cleared to open views across the property, and the bunkers were rebuilt in sandbelt style, cut to the edges of the greens with sand sourced on site.
- The Original: Oliver's routing restored, par 72 and 6343 metres from the black tees. The 8th, played over the Hog's Back landform, is the signature hole.
- The Farm: par 72 and 6150 metres, with alternate tees, a short par 3 8th and the 9th reversed into an uphill par 4.
- The Track: par 70 and 5884 metres, dropping two par 5s; its 13th is a par 3 of 219 metres from the back tee.
All three routings finish on the same 18th hole.
The National is a private club. Victorian residents can play only when invited by a member and playing with that member. Interstate and overseas visitors can request tee times through the club's visitor page, which also lists current rates. Green fees are charged per round and guests may play up to 36 holes in a day. The dress code is enforced, and visitors who do not meet it are not admitted. The Long Island pro shop is on (03) 9707 9907, and booking requests can go to bookings@nationalgolf.com.au.
