About the course
Rutherglen Golf Club was formed in 1900, with its first course on Quarry Hill, the land now occupied by the town's high school. Club championships are recorded from 1907, a regular fixture of events began in 1914 and the first clubhouse went up in 1916. In 1926 members proposed a move to Rutherglen Park, where a 10-hole course opened in 1927; it grew to 12 holes in 1950 and to the present 18 holes in 1965. Volunteers have always run the club, including the upkeep of the course.
The course is an 18-hole sand scrape layout. In early 2024 the club removed two par 5s and added several short par 3s. Rutherglen is about three hours from Melbourne and around 30 minutes from Wangaratta, Albury, Yarrawonga and Beechworth, with the Murray River and Corowa about 10 minutes away.
Visitors are welcome every day and do not need to book a tee time. Non-members pay a $20 green fee to play in club events. The weekly program is:
- Monday: ladies' 9-hole social golf, 9am tee-off in summer and 9.30am from April to August
- Wednesday: 18-hole stableford, 8.30am in summer and 11am from April to August
- Friday: 9-hole chook run from 3pm; cards can also be played earlier in the week and lodged by 5pm Friday
- Sunday: the main weekly event, 8.30am in summer and 11am from April to August, with a monthly medal through the year
Three self-drive carts can be hired through the Vendi booking system, which issues a code for the key lockbox near the maintenance shed. The clubhouse has a kitchen and bar and can be hired for functions.
