About the course

The Rosanna Golf Club is a private members' club at 54 Cleveland Avenue, Lower Plenty, about 20 kilometres from central Melbourne, on land near the junction of the Plenty and Yarra rivers. Its roots go back to the Eaglemont Golf Club, founded in 1898. A private members' club formed in 1934, local businessman Robert Treganowan bought the property in 1936, and the club as it exists today was established in 1937.

As the suburb of Rosanna grew and costs rose, members agreed in 1962 to move to 139 acres at Lower Plenty. H.V. Morcom designed the new 18-hole course, which the Governor of Victoria opened on 27 March 1965. The site has seen hard times: in the 1967-68 drought staff and members hand-watered the greens, and floods in 1971 closed the course for eight days. A 1974 fire destroyed the clubhouse, which was rebuilt by 1975 and renovated again in 1994 and 2013. Improved drainage and extra water storage now allow play all year.

The course rewards accuracy into tight green complexes more than length, and the Plenty River comes into play on many holes. Much of the competition golf is played from the middle tees. The men's and women's pennant teams both play in Division Two.

The club's website does not set out visitor access or green fees. The golf shop handles all bookings and cart hire and can be reached on (03) 9431 1033.

PGA professionals in the golf shop offer private lessons, clinics for juniors and beginner women, and club fitting, and members have free range balls and a short game practice area. The Cleveland Room overlooks the course and the Plenty River, seats up to 100 (150 when extended) and opens onto a wraparound deck, and a boardroom suits smaller meetings.
