About the course

Trentham Golf Club covers 39 hectares on the northern edge of Trentham, about 100 kilometres north-west of Melbourne (a 70-minute drive) and 20 minutes from Daylesford. Stony Creek runs along its eastern boundary before joining the Coliban River above Trentham Falls. The land was farmed from the 1850s and later held by the Trentham Co-operative Society, which ran a slaughterhouse there. The club was founded in 1937 with a nine-hole sand green course on leased land, bought the property in October 1949, and extended to 18 holes during the 1950s. Grass greens came in 1963, and a dam on the creek in 1976 allowed year-round watering. The clubhouse burnt down on Christmas Day 1981 and a brick replacement opened in September 1982.

The red volcanic soil grows good turf and drains well. From 1995 architect Kevin Hartley guided a redesign that added a new par 3 2nd and rebuilt greens in stages until 2012, when every green had been reconstructed to USGA standards. The men's course is par 70. A $175,000 automated irrigation system was installed in 2025.

Green fee players can play at any time except during competitions, from 8.30am to 12.30pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, tournaments and maintenance closures. The 2026 fee is $45 for 18 holes booked online or paid by QR code, or $47.50 at the walk-in card terminal, and $30 for nine; juniors pay $15 and $10. Carts are $45 and must be pre-booked on (03) 5424 1046, and pull buggies are $5. Visitors with a Golf Australia handicap can enter weekly competitions for a combined $45, and the club holds a tournament week each October.

The clubhouse is usually open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with a bar and air-conditioning, and the Birdie Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and snacks on those days; you can text an order from the 10th tee and collect it on the way to the 11th. Gas barbecues outside are open to all visitors.
