About the course
Werribee Park Golf Club was established in 1976 in Werribee's south precinct, near the Mansion Hotel, the Victoria State Rose Garden and Werribee Open Range Zoo. The course was designed by Kevin Hartley, an amateur who represented Australia in four Eisenhower Cups and won the Ivo Whitton Trophy 13 times. Hartley chose the clubhouse site first, on a ridge for its river views, so the 1st starts on the high ground, the 9th and 10th play on the flat near the clubhouse and the 18th climbs back up to it. The greens, about 550 square metres each, were modelled on Royal Melbourne's.
The 18-hole course has fully watered fairways on free-draining alluvial soil that stays playable through wet winters, and an open layout balanced by tree plantings, bunkers and lateral water hazards, with views of the Werribee River and the Red Cliffs.
- 7th: a dogleg left with the Werribee River to the right of the fairway.
- 11th: a par 5 with water on the right, reachable in two only with a strong tailwind.
- 16th: a very long par 5 with a tree in the middle of the fairway.
- 17th: a long par 3 with trees down the left.
The course is open to the public, and tee times can be booked online after registering. Weekday green fees are $48 for 18 holes and $38 for nine, rising to $60 and $40 at weekends, and under-16s pay $15. Carts cost $45 for 18 holes and $27 for nine. On the course, collared shirts and tailored shorts or trousers are expected; t-shirts, denim and athletic wear are not allowed.
The 220-metre driving range has 12 bays, a practice bunker and a chipping area, and opens from first light until about 5pm, with buckets from $5 for non-members and iron hire for $5. Lessons are offered through the pro shop, and the clubhouse's Views Restaurant looks out over the You Yangs, the river and the Bellarine Peninsula.
