About the course
Melville Glades Golf Club occupies just under 68 hectares of bushland in Leeming, in the City of Melville, about 20 minutes south of the Perth CBD. Golfers began planning a private club for Perth's growing southern suburbs in 1966, and the club was incorporated on 31 August 1967. Foundation members worked alongside contractors to clear the bush, and the course and a permanent clubhouse were officially opened on 24 May 1969 by the Governor, Major General Sir Douglas Kendrew.
The 18-hole parkland course was designed by Sydney architect Al Howard and later refined by Graham Marsh and Ross Watson. It measures about 6,200 metres from the back tees and plays to par 71, with couch fairways, G2 bentgrass greens and Santa Ana tees. Areas of native bushland remain between the holes, and a large population of western grey kangaroos lives on the course.
Melville Glades is a private members' club and is not open to casual public play. Members can bring guests on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons, with guests paying the member guest green fee and limited to six rounds a calendar year. Social and corporate groups are taken on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons only, by enquiry to golf@melvilleglades.com. Recognised golf attire is required on the course, with soft spikes or flat-soled sports shoes.
The practice range, reserved for members and their guests, is more than 300 metres long and is hit from natural grass, with short-game areas and putting greens alongside. The pro shop, run by PGA professionals, offers equipment, club fitting, repairs and lessons through the club's golf academy. The bar opens daily from 10am (6:30am on Saturdays), with full dining on Wednesday (steak night), Friday and Saturday and a snacks menu on other afternoons.
