About the course
Mosman Park Golf Club sits on high ground above the Swan River at Chidley Point, roughly halfway between Perth and Fremantle. Local residents won approval in August 1959 to lease land from the Mosman Park Road Board, and the founding members did much of the construction themselves. Later in 1959 the club was renamed Chidley Point Golf Club, taking the Chidley family's Fleur de Lys as its emblem, and the course was officially opened in March 1962. The club went back to the Mosman Park name in 2000.
The nine-hole course, designed by local professional Neville Johnson, has 18 alternate tees on hilly ground, and its layout has changed little since it was built. Perth architect Michael Coate prepared a master plan in 2007, and since then fairway bunkers have been added on several holes and new greens built on the 1st/10th and 9th/18th.
Mosman Park is a private members' club that opens to public golfers at set times, generally on Fridays and Sundays with limited availability on other days. Book through the club's public booking page or call the club. Visitor fees are $44 for 18 holes and $32 for nine on weekdays, and $54 and $37 on weekends. The club has 12 motorised carts ($50 for 18 holes, $35 for nine), plus a few hire sets ($35 and $25) and push buggies. The dress code applies to visitors: collared shirts tucked in, and no denim, board or cargo shorts, T-shirts, singlets or tracksuits. BYO alcohol is not allowed on the course.
Head Professional and General Manager Tony Howell, at the club since 1997, runs the pro shop, and teaching professional Richard Ball gives lessons. Members have a driving range, putting green and chipping nets. The clubhouse bar looks out over the river and opens daily from 10am or 11am until between 6pm and 7pm, and the club hosts functions and weddings.
