About the course

Nedlands Golf Club sits on the Melvista Reserve in Nedlands, about 10 minutes from the Perth CBD, with views over the Swan River. It was founded in 1932 by local councillor Cyril Dudley, president for 27 of the club's first 32 years. The club opened in May 1934 as the eighth metropolitan golf club in Perth. A request to the Nedlands Road Board for more land to extend to 18 holes was refused, so members developed the nine holes instead. From 1947 the club hosted the Nedlands Masters, won by players such as Terry Gale, Stuart Appleby, Greg Chalmers and Stephen Leaney, and from 2002 to 2006 the event was part of the Western Australian Open.

The nine-hole course uses 18 alternate tees, with tight, tree-lined fairways that reward accuracy. It was lengthened from 5,454 metres to 5,808 metres by 1984. In a greens replacement project the 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th greens and the practice green were rebuilt in 2024, with the other five following in 2025, all in 007XL bentgrass.

Nedlands is a members' club. Member guests pay $65 for 18 holes and $45 for nine, and corporate and social groups ($80 for 18, $60 for nine) need committee approval before a timesheet opens, arranged by email through the pro shop. Carts cost $50 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, and club hire $30 and $20. Competitions take priority on several days:

  • Tuesday: women's competitions in the morning, social play after 2.30pm.
  • Wednesday: men's competition all day.
  • Thursday: mixed competitions in the morning, nine-hole social play from 2pm.
  • Saturday: members' competition all day.

Practice areas include a 400-square-metre putting green, warm-up nets, an 80-metre short-iron area with two bunkers, and a driving range set up on the 5th fairway at quiet times. Andy Gott gives lessons. The two-storey clubhouse has bars, a members' lounge and a restaurant serving lunch from Tuesday to Saturday, with themed dinners on the first Friday of each month.
