About the course
Point Walter Golf Course is a public nine-hole course on Honour Avenue in Bicton, beside the Swan River in Perth's southern suburbs and about 20 minutes' drive from the CBD. It is managed by Belgravia Leisure and is open seven days.
The course measures 2,605 metres and has six par 4s, two par 3s and one par 5, for a par of 35. Golfers can stop after nine holes or go round a second time for 18. The river breeze plays a part on several holes:
- 2nd: a par 3 that always plays into the wind, so most players take an extra club.
- 3rd: the only par 5, with a narrow opening to a green that breaks towards the river.
- 5th: the hardest hole, into the wind to a narrow, fast green. It is where a Guinness World Record for the longest putt was set on 2 February 2017.
- 7th: the "big tree" hole, with a flat green looking down the Swan towards Fremantle.
- 8th: a short par 4 back towards the city that long hitters can reach from the tee.
Tee times can be booked online up to 11 days ahead. Carts can only be booked by phone on (08) 9330 3262 and are not available for twilight rounds, and pull trolleys and hire clubs depend on availability and must be returned by sunset. The course opens from 7am until 7pm or dusk, with the last start at 5pm. Groups of more than 12 book by phone, and cancellations made more than 24 hours ahead are refunded.
The pro shop sells equipment and apparel, hires carts and clubs and does club repairs, and PGA professional Clint Birkholz offers private lessons, group and junior clinics and club fitting. The licensed Grasslands Café and Bar in the clubhouse serves food from 8am to 3pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 5pm Friday to Sunday. Next door, Goanna Golf is an 18-hole Australiana-themed mini golf course, open from 9am to 6.30pm.
