About the course
Sea View Golf Club sits on a reserve beside the beach in Cottesloe, looking out over the Indian Ocean towards Rottnest Island. Golf on the site goes back to 1909, when a group of men set out to turn the scrub and sandhills near Broome Street into a links. The Cottesloe Golf Club was the first occupant, and Sea View was formed in 1931 and took over the lease.
The course is a nine-hole links played twice from different tees. Ocean wind, tight fairways and quick greens provide the challenge, and a strong south-westerly makes several holes much harder. Four greens carry two flags, blue for the front nine and yellow for the back, and the greens on the 1st and 8th were reshaped in 2022. From the men's tees the 18 holes add up to about 5,600 metres.
- 1st: a 444-metre par 5 that is straightforward in calm weather and hard work in a strong breeze.
- 4th: a 149-metre par 3 with ocean views and deep bunkers front and right.
- 7th: the most exposed tee, right by the beach, with out of bounds on the right.
- 9th and 18th: played as a 416-metre par 4 first time round and a 455-metre par 5 to finish.
Sea View is a private members' club, but non-members can play outside member times: Monday all day, Tuesday and Thursday after 11am, Wednesday after 3.30pm, Friday (nine holes only), Saturday after 3pm and Sunday from 7am to 1pm. Bookings are made by phoning the pro shop on (08) 9384 8879.
The pro shop opens seven days and offers club fitting and repairs, and the club's PGA professionals teach private lessons, Flightscope sessions and nine-hole playing lessons. The Links Bistro serves lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and bookings are essential on (08) 9384 0471.
