About the course
Mount Lawley Golf Club is a private club in Inglewood, about 10 minutes from the Perth CBD. Local residents first met in 1927 to discuss a course on what was then Perth's northern fringe, the club was formed in 1928, and members cleared the bush to build it. A 10-hole course opened in 1930, the full 18 holes followed in 1935, and the two nines were swapped in 1951, the order still played today. The club's story is told in the 2011 book From Humble Beginnings.
The championship course covers 79 hectares of native bushland, with glimpses of the city skyline, and is an easy walk. It has subtly undulating greens, sandbelt-style bunkers, heavily wooded rough and fairways that ask for precision. The club has hosted State and national amateur events and the 2013 Western Australian Open. After a 2015 master plan and the 2018 appointment of course superintendent Rod Tatt, formerly of Melbourne's sandbelt, a $3.7 million, three-year redevelopment replaced 20 greens and reshaped eight green complexes, including the par 3 13th, now shaped like the map of Australia. The work was finished in February 2025.
Play is for members, their guests and members of the club's reciprocal clubs in Australia and overseas, with reciprocal rates set by the agreement with your home club. Member guests pay $130 for 18 holes and $70 for nine. Mount Lawley is traditionally a walking course, but a limited fleet of carts can be booked ahead ($50 for guests and visitors); hirers must be 18 or over with a current driver's licence. Hire clubs cost $80 for 18 holes and $50 for nine, and pull buggies are free.
Practice facilities include a 250-metre driving range with a large grass tee, putting and chipping greens and practice bunkers. The golf shop, open to all golfers, has PGA professionals offering lessons, clinics and custom fitting, and the clubhouse overlooks the opening and closing holes.
