About the course
Pinjarra Golf Club is on the corner of Pinjarra Road and Sutton Street, about 80 kilometres south of Perth and 18 kilometres south-east of Mandurah. Founded in 1912, it is one of the oldest clubs in Western Australia. It first played on private land north of the town, moved across the highway to a nine-hole course in 1927, and later secured its current site, a recreation reserve that had been earmarked as a landing ground during the war. Dr Eustace Cohen designed the first nine holes there, three more were added, and an 18-hole sand green course opened in 1967. Alcoa's arrival in the area in the late 1960s prompted a push for grass greens, and in the early 1970s the club established reticulated fairways and grass greens.
The club hosts the men's and women's Amateur Open each October and the WA 2-Ball Ambrose Championships each March.
Green fee players are welcome and bookings are essential. Register as a public member to book tee times online, or call the pro shop on (08) 9531 2588. Online midweek rates are $40 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, with higher Sunday rates, and walking players can play unlimited holes after 3pm for $20. The club has a fleet of 36 motorised carts, which are popular and should be booked ahead, and a limited number of hire sets. On the course, players need a collared shirt, tailored trousers or shorts and soft spikes, with no blue denim in competitions and shirts tucked in.
The pro shop is open from 6.30am to 5.30pm daily and offers club fitting and repairs. The driving range, open to the public from 6.30am to 4pm, has an automated ball dispenser that takes cards. PGA professionals give lessons from $70 for 30 minutes, and the clubhouse serves everything from sandwiches to sit-down meals.
