About the course

Serpentine & Districts Golf Club is a community club in Serpentine, south of Perth, set among trees. The club was formed in 1972 as Serpentine and Districts Golf Club Inc. Its course was built in two stages: the front nine, designed by Chas Newman, came into play in 1970, and the back nine, laid out by former club president Merv Gossage, was officially opened on 23 May 1976.

The 18-hole course plays to par 72, with four par 5s and four par 3s. It has sand greens, which call for different approach shots from grass greens, and reticulated fairways of kikuyu and wild couch. There are permanent dams on the 9th and 12th; the other water hazards only hold water in winter.

  • 5th: the longest hole for men, a 479-metre par 5.
  • 8th: the shortest, a 129-metre par 3.
  • 13th: the longest par 3 from the men's tees at 170 metres.

The course is open to the public on almost every day of the year and green fee players do not need to book. A few major events each year close it to visitors, and a sign at the entrance says so on those days. Green fees are $20 for 18 holes and $15 for nine, with children $5. The club is mostly unattended and has no change: pay cash through the honesty box on the verandah or by bank transfer before you play, and carry your receipt. No buggies or clubs are available for hire.

Competitions have priority, so let competitors play through: - Sunday: men's 18 holes from 8am. - Tuesday: ladies' 18 and 9 holes from 9am. - Thursday: mixed 18 holes from 8am. - Saturday: mixed 18 holes from 12.30pm.

Morning starts move to 7.30am in summer.
