About the course
St Andrews Beach is a public course at Fingal in the Cups region on the south-western side of the Mornington Peninsula, close to Gunnamatta Beach and Bass Strait. It was designed by American architect Tom Doak, whose other work includes Barnbougle Dunes, Cape Kidnappers and Tara Iti. The Gunnamatta course opened as a members' course and was ranked ninth in Australia on its debut in 2006, then opened to public play in 2009. Doak has said that almost no earth was moved on the fairways, leaving the natural contours of the sandy ground.
The 18-hole links-style course plays to par 70, with wide fairways, steep-faced bunkers and large contoured greens, while valleys and native trees give some shelter from the wind.
- 2nd: a 279-metre par 4, drivable with a following wind, beside a large blow-out dune.
- 4th: a 197-metre par 3 that usually plays longer than its length.
- 13th: the longest par 4 at about 457 metres, with a blind drive and a punchbowl green.
- 14th: a 276-metre par 4 that can be reached in an onshore breeze, with a deep valley on the right.
The course is open seven days. Green fees are $139 for 18 holes and $83 for nine, with nine-hole rounds only within 24 hours of play or after 3pm. Under-18s pay $70, groups of 16 or more $128, and motorised carts are $54. Bookings open online three months ahead and by phone seven days ahead, and groups of nine or more can book up to 18 months out. Private ride-on vehicles are not allowed.
The Glasshouse is the course's golf shop and licensed café, serving snacks from 7am to 3pm most days, with indoor and outdoor seating, warm-up nets and a pitching and putting area. On-site accommodation is available, and the course is managed by Golf Services Management.
